What is Proton?
Proton is a public blockchain and smart contracts platform launched in 2020 and designed for consumer applications and peer-peer payments with zero fees, human-readable names, and instant transactions. Proton's team aims to make cryptocurrency accessible for everyone, so ease of use is a main priority. Proton is the heart of the fastly growing DeFi ecosystem around it.

What is an XPR token?
XPR is a governance token of the Proton blockchain. Proton uses DPoS (Delegated Proof-of-Stake) concept, and XPR is used by blockchain users to stake it and vote for block producers.
What are the block producers for?
DPoS (Delegated Proof-of-Stake) is an evolution of the PoS (Proof-of-Stake) concept. It works very similarly - for providing network security, participants stake their tokens; however, rather than becoming responsible for validation themselves, stakeholders outsource that work to block producers, a group responsible for reaching consensus between themselves.
Is Proton a separate blockchain?
Yes, it is. Proton is built on EOSIO technology enhanced by its needs. Notice that it is not the same as an EOS fork. It's an independent blockchain built from the ground.
What is EOSIO?
EOSIO is a highly performant open-source blockchain platform built to support and operate safe, compliant, and predictable digital infrastructures.

In other words, EOSIO is a platform used to build fast and scalable blockchain projects, just like Proton.

You can find more information on the official EOSIO website.
Does Proton have its own wallet?
Yes, Proton, unlike most crypto projects, offers its own beautiful mobile wallet. You can download the Proton Wallet for iOS and Android on the official website.
How to buy XPR?
You can find the detailed guide in our blog post.
What is a LOAN token?
LOAN is a governance token of the Proton Loan platform – a new decentralized lending market built on the Proton blockchain. Utilizing the cross-chain capabilities of Proton wrapped xTokens, Proton Loan makes it possible to deposit cryptocurrency into lending pools to earn interest and take collateralized loans from cryptocurrency pools for BTC, ETH, USDC, USDT, XPR and XMT, with zero gas fees on the Proton blockchain.

Proton Loan is planned to have community-driven governance. Governance will be deployed in time as the platform grows. LOAN stakers will be able to make proposals and vote on how the protocol is being developed and run. Thus, stakers will be incentivized to collectively steer the platform/protocol into the future with good governance and have a stake in deciding what sort of collateral the platform should support or what the interest rates should be.
What is an MTL/XMT token?

Metal (MTL) is the native currency of Metal products and an essential part of the Metal ecosystem. Designed to make cryptocurrency payments fast and easy, users pay zero fees when sending, receiving, buying, or selling MTL.

XMT is the Proton blockchain version of MTL. It is the decentralized governance token that will be used to vote and get the yield generated by XMD (Metal Dollar) contract.

What is an XMD token?
XMD (Metal Dollar) is planned to be a basket of stablecoins on Proton that can be swapped interchangeably, and Metal Dollar will essentially have a stable yield over $1 that will be allocated into XMT and various xTokens that are voted on with XMT through the governance dashboard, which will be available inside Metal Pay.
Is there a Proton roadmap?
You can find the Proton roadmap on the official website. Don't be surprised if you see no plans for several years ahead because the roadmap is revealed and updated gradually as soon as the previously planned goals are ready. It doesn't mean that the Proton team has no plans - they have, but unlike many other crypto projects, they do not make promises which can not be done in time or not done at all because plans have changed. But if a thing gets in the roadmap it inevitably will be done. All dates in the roadmap are just approximate targets. We all know that the development of complicated financial services is fraught with many difficulties and pitfalls.
What are the Proton market capitalization and maximum supply?
The most accurate information about XPR tokenomics you can see here.

XPR has no technical hard cap or max supply and has limited 3% annual inflation. The inflation goes to block producers and short stakers to keep the blockchain secure and provide zero fees for end-users.

There is also the burn mechanism to counter the inflation:

  1. Developers who buy resources on the blockchain for their apps pay with XPR, which are burned then.
  2. Minting NFTs also requires resources, so 10% of XPR paid for minting will be burned.
  3. Also, fees from Proton Swap (0.1% from every transaction) are converted to XPR and burned.

So the more adoption of XPR will be, the more coins will be burned.
How can I create or buy NFTs?
Proton has its NFT market with a user-friendly interface and tiny fees. Minting of about the first 10 NFTs is free.

Also, there is an alternative NFT marketplace - ProtonMint created by third-party developers from the community.
